ItвЂ™s a wonderful, funny, interesting gem of a book, and I wish I had multiple copies to give to every student I found struggling with university life. For a disclaimer, I have read Osemans first book Solitaire, and I was not a fan. I wish everyone could read this book, I honestly do. In fact, its in my top 5 books I have ever read, as its such an evocative and realistic portrayal of life as a teenager. ItвЂ™s accepted, and thereвЂ™s a happy ending, and itвЂ™s glorious. The characters are just bisexual and asexual. Most importantly, itвЂ™s not the same tired narrative of coming out to your parents/friends, with the same tired phrases repeated over and over, вЂI was born this way!вЂ™ вЂWill you still love me!вЂ™. Radio Silence also deals with LGBTA issues in a way that is not often depicted in popular LGBTA fiction. Dippy, mental, best friends, who love each other, and create magical things together. Oseman perfectly captures what it is like when you meet. OsemanвЂ™s depiction of a male/female friendship is also a sight to behold, as thereвЂ™s never any sly winks towards the camera that these two /could/ date, or there is some bubbling sexual tension below the surface. Alice Osemans captivating novel is, at its heart, a story about friendship and being true to yourself. Oseman captures that enthusiastic emoji-flooded onslaught of affection that teenagers speak, not the вЂlol ttylвЂ™ speech that older authors are convinced that teenagers speak. Reading the chat logs between Aled and Francis made my heart sing, as itвЂ™s exactly like reading a conversation between me and any of my friends on the internet.

For a teenager who does have mental health issues, and friendship issues, and who spends her life on the internet, itвЂ™s wonderful to read a book that understands me, and never talks down to me. Radio Silence is a story about friendships, and the internet, and mental health. All she and her roommate, John, know for sure is that they have to get out, stat.

Although, I do have to say that it is so clear how Oseman has developed as a writer since her first book, itвЂ™s an amazing transformation.
